Chitra Kalyandurg

Chitra Kalyandurg has been a student of Kuchipudi since 1989 and began training with renowned Kuchipudi artist and guru, Anuradha Nehru since 1994. Chitra has also trained with artists such as Sasikala Penumarthi, Mrinalini Sadananda, Kishore Mosalikanti, Vempati Ravi Shankar, and Padmabushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam. She currently performs nationally and internationally with the Kalanidhi Dance Company. Chitra has performed at venues such as the Smithsonian Institute, National Geographic Society, the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, and Dance Place. In 2007, Chitra took part in Kalanidhi Dance's tour to India. In 2008 she studied dance and choreography in India with the support of a Creative Projects grant from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County. Chitra is a recipient of the prestigious 2009 Princess Grace Dance Honoraria for her artistic excellence in Kuchipudi. In addition to performing, Chitra teaches Kuchipudi classes around the Washington area, and is a teaching artist in the fields of dance, theater and creative movement. She currently works as the marketing and fundraising consultant at Kuchipudi Kalanidhi.
